People often say that one of the causes for illegally downloading music is the lack of similar legal services. So I thought it was pretty interesting that OD2, a firm who has started with this some time ago, has now made a deal with Universal Music to offer 50 000 more songs on their network. Included are famous artists like Eminem and Sting. OD2 has now a deal with four of the biggest record companies.
The agreement gives OD2 access to 50,000 songs from Universal's repertoire including Eminem, Sting and jazz legend Louis Armstrong, bringing the total in OD2's library to 150,000 tracks.
Under the terms of the deal, select Universal tracks will be available for an undisclosed fee from mid-November on OD2's partner sites, including HMV.co.uk, Microsoft's portal MSN.co.uk and British Internet service provider, Freeserve.co.uk
Consumers in Western Europe, with the exception of France, will be eligible to download the Universal tracks.
Could be a good move with dropping profits on regular CD sales. But in my opinion it all goes too slow. Why would you pay for services that only offer a limited amount of songs, when you can have it all for free? Read the entire article here.
