Universal Music to release more Super Audio CDs this fall

A Sony and Philips development, the Super Audio CD, provides amazing richness of sound and unprecedented levels of quality by utilising a new recording technique, Direct Stream Digital. They claim this method produces a far higher frequency range than normal CD format and delivers recordings which are absolutely faithful to the original material. Universal will use this technology to release some new albums and re-release some oldies but goodies. Many genres are to be represented, from rock to jazz to classical.

Widely regarded as the most spectacular feature of Super Audio CD, releases featuring multi-channel, 5:1 surround sound, deliver an entirely new, astonishing experience where the music surrounds and envelopes the listener like never before. With vocals and instruments afforded more space and clarity, surround sound recordings present music as the artist intended it - from broad soundscapes to subtle nuance, every detail can be heard.

With more than two million players sold and more than a thousand titles available at retail, Super Audio CD is rapidly gaining critical mass amongst music lovers. More than one hundred albums are already available from Universal Music - the world's largest music company - including twenty-two titles in the Rolling Stones Remastered series, Beck's Sea Change, Bon Jovi's Bounce, Diana Krall's The Look Of Love and seven albums from the Police including Every Breath You Take, Regatta De Blanc and Synchronicity.

Sting's much anticipated new studio album Sacred Love heads the line-up for Universal, released on 22nd September across Europe, initially on 'hybrid' Super Audio CD only. Former Clannad member Moya Brennan's, Two Horizons, will be joined this winter by brand new albums from Ronan Keating and Texas. Several recent releases that have already seen success worldwide are set for issue on Super Audio CD. These include the 8 million selling Up! by Shania Twain and Long Gone Before Daylight by Sweden's The Cardigans.
