We have received some samples in our review lab in Germany of some new media from Verbatim. While in the process of procuring some drives for review with the 52x LightScribe CD-R, we thought in the meantime you would like to see some pictures of the packaging and read some new information on Verbatim media. In regards to the Verbatim DVD-R 16x media, we have been informed by Verbatim that the media will only burn at 4x with Pioneer A09 drives at the moment. However, both parties are working now to improve compatibility, and say that in the next Pioneer firmware update, this issue will be resolved.

The DVD+R 8x LightScribe 5 Pack will be available April 2005 and these first generation discs from Verbatim will be monochrome. The CD-R 52x LightScribe 10 Pack has been available since January 2005 and the DVD-R16x media is available now as well. At the same time, Verbatim is announcing the upcoming availability of DVD-RW 6x discs, a significant speed improvement on the currently available '“RW4x media. The new '“R16x burn speed shortens the burn time for the format, bringing it down from under 10 minutes for 8x media to below six minutes for the complete 4.7GB capacity. The DVD-RW 6x discs provide the additional flexibility of rewriting and can be recorded onto over 1,000 times. Verbatim also predicts a 50-year archival life for the product.
