Verbatim shipping MediDisc CD-R, DVD-R media for medical imaging

Specifically developed for the healthcare industry, Verbatim DICOM-compliant MediDisc media offers a unique combination of consistent high quality, data reliability, longevity and a printable surface for listing content information. The new media will be featured at the Objective Data Storage (ODS) Booth #2579 during RSNA 2003 this week at Chicago's McCormick Place.

Features that separate the quality of Verbatim MediDisc CD-R and DVD-R discs from standard grade media include:

• MediDisc media incorporates a specially developed proprietary Metal Azo(TM) recording dye that provides superior performance and reliable data recording at all writing speeds.
• Metal Azo technology also provides the long archival life required for healthcare image and records retention by protecting critical patient data from heat, humidity, UV light, and other environmental elements.
• Verbatim employs special manufacturing and testing control procedures that ensure disc-to-disc consistency and that each MediDisc CD-R and DVD-R performs at the highest standard. Each disc can be tracked to its source.
• All MediDisc media is produced with a scuff-resistant top coating that protects data from scratches and rough handling in busy hospital and physician office environments.
• For easy identification of disc contents, MediDisc media are produced with printable surfaces that can be used to list patient, study and hospital information. MediDisc media are compatible with a wide range of CD/DVD disc printers
• All Verbatim MediDisc CD-R and DVD-R media are DICOM compliant.

With the ability to deliver an estimated archival life of 100 years and the broadest compatibility possible with current and future DVD drives and players, Verbatim MediDisc CD-R and DVD-R media are ideal for DICOM-standard medical image storage/distribution, video training support and all HIPPA records systems. In addition, because CD-R and DVD-R are true write-once mediums, they provide legal hardcopies of the stored information at a low cost per Megabyte.

Offering a capacity of 700MB/80min, a single MediDisc CD-R disc can typically store up to 700 chest x-rays, 550 high-resolution images or about 55,000 pages of text. With a write speed of up to 7.2MB/sec, healthcare workers can fill a disc in about two minutes.

Verbatim 4.7GB MediDisc DVD-R media provides nearly seven times the capacity of the CD-R media and a 4X write speed which is equivalent to a 36x CD write speed. A single 4.7GB disc can store up to 4,700 chest x-rays, nearly 4,000 high-resolution images, 30 four-drawer filing cabinets of documents or 120 minutes of high-quality MPEG-2 video.

MediDisc CD-R and DVD-R media are fully compatible with the Verbatim MediDisc CD/DVD Image Recording System marketed by Objective Data Storage (ODS), a leading developer and reseller of enterprise data storage software products and solutions. The MediDisc System is an end-to-end hardware and software solution for receiving, recording, and storing patient records and digital images on CD/DVD media. Availability

Verbatim MediDisc 700MB/80min. CD-R and 4.7GB DVD-R media are available through healthcare and medical resellers in individual jewel cases or convenient 50-pack spindle packages. Spindle media are coated with either a white inkjet or white thermal print surface and are compatible with most CD/DVD disc printers.
