Verismo Networks has publicly launched its $99 VuNow PoD set-top box that will give consumers the ability to stream movies, user-generated content, viral videos and global Live TV channels directly into the living room.
YouTube is already a partner working with Verismo, but I believe several movie studios must become partners, as YouTube alone won't be enough to help Verismo sell these set-top boxes. If not movie studios, then a network cable or two must be willing to work with Verismo to offer a wider variety of content.
"The television is a terrific medium for watching and sharing videos with friends or family," Verismo Networks CEO Prakash Bhalerao said in a statement. "We're excited to add YouTube to the VuNow Internet TV platform. VuNow offers the broadest selection of Internet content for the TV, and our goal is to keep expanding the entertainment and options for our customers."
Verismo designed the box to stream videos into the living room, but will face stiff competition from other companies working in the same market. The Microsoft Xbox 360, Roku Netflix player, and similar other technologies are available on the market now, which could hurt Verismo sales later down the road.
