Verismo Networks has launched a new global OEM program aimed at having manufacturers use its VuNow platform on standalone set-top boxes and similar devices aimed at streaming Internet content through the TV.
"An open platform is fundamental to our success," Verismo Networks EVP Dhaval Ajmera said in a statement. "Our OEM initiative fosters the development of differentiated products by OEMs worldwide, thereby offering consumers compelling choices for entertainment in their living room."
The platform offers a hosting and delivery service for all on-demand content based on subscriptions, pay-per-view or ad-supported viewing models. Manufacturers can rely on the subscription management, billing, analytics engine, geo targeting and other tools built into the OEM technology.

During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) last month, Verismo launched its $99 VuNow PoD with YouTube support, offering viewers the ability to connect their TV to the Internet to watch streaming content in the living room.
The company has reportedly seen high interest for its VuNow PoD, although exact orders or sales figures haven't been revealed. I remain rather skeptical because of the number of similar product launches that simply beat the VuNow PoD to the punch, but we'll see what the company does in the future with their low-price device.
The popularity of Internet TV has steadily increased as viewers become more familiar with online services that stream video content, such as Netflix, and online video sites that offer better quality content.
