Wal-Mart ends Web DVD rentals, starts to promote Netflix

Hypnosis4U2NV and ThunderJon used our news submit to tell us that Wal-Mart is ending its DVD rental service. The company was offering online DVD rentals using an unlimited DVD subscription plan. Online rentals of DVD movies are rapidly increasing in popularity in the US and in other countries around the world and Wal-Mart was aiming for a piece of the cake.

The Wal-Mart partnership gives Netflix exposure to 500 million visitors who visit the walmart.com site every year, although the megaretailer has struggled to attract DVD renters.

Shares of Netflix, which pioneered online rentals, jumped as much as 24 percent and touched their highest level since rival Blockbuster Inc. launched an online service. But they lost much of their initial gains, ending up 4 percent

The reason for Wal-Mart to quit its online DVD rental business seems to be mainly the very competitive market. However there are tools to find thebest online DVD rental company and of course you are also welcome to discuss this subject in our forums.
