I discovered this very excellent comparison of the latest DivX encoding methods including the latest SBC, DivX4 and 3ivx clips done by the number one DVD backup place on the web (at least to my opinion ) Doom9. Here are some conclusions:
..."3ivx clearly is in another league at the moment we I'll mainly focus on SBC and DivX4. At 1 CD bitrates (and regular 2 CD bitrates as well I presume) DivX4 has made quite a leap forward. Using beta2 I got the same fps during encoding and since both SBC and OpenDivX clips look about the same I think we can start testing this codec for real for this type of scenario..." |
..."At higher bitrates there's some work that remains to be done and despite many people not having the problems I do have it and it disturbs me a lot. I hope that when I can put these sample clips online there will be other people who can notice the effect so that the developers can go over it again..."
