Will Microsoft provide Blu-ray support in Vista?

Paul Thurrott has an article
up telling us that an "internal memo" he has seen, indicates
support is coming next month in the next beta version of Vista. Yet, there is no
firm confirmation from Redmond on the validity of this. They say it isn't even
their job to provide such functionality.

There's
just one problem: The software giant denies it will support Blu-ray.

"There are still no plans for any
development work on [Blu-ray] from Microsoft," a company spokesperson told
me on Wednesday. "Since Windows is a platform, they expect companies to
provide [Blu-ray] solutions for Windows Vista." The company pointed me to
work that Cyberlink is doing with its XP-based Blu-ray video editing,
playback, and disc-burning solution as an example of the type of
third-party products it expects to see for Vista as
well.

Those of you out there that are working with the Vista
Beta, you will be able to see for yourselves according to Mr. Thurrott. He
says this February 22 they will send out the latest code for
testers!
