martbhell used our news submit to let us know that the final release of Winamp 5.0 is now out. In the last few weeks, we have seen the Release Candidates being released one after another which was a clear sign that they were getting very close to the final release . So far at the time of writing, Nullsoft have no mention let alone a hint about Winamp 5 on their website .
As we have reported before, Winamp 5.0 also comes in a free version and a premium 'pro' version . The free version has all the features of the pro version apart from the ability the encode MP3's and also maximum recording and ripping speeds are significantly reduced in their free version.

It will be interesting to see how well this version of Winamp does. It looks like Nullsoft have learned a valuable lesson that consumers are after performance, simplicity and customisability over bloated CPU intensive add-ons which proved unsuccessful in Winamp 3. Winamp 3 also lacked most of the useful features of Winamp 2 such as plug-in and DSP configuration.
