Womble used our news submit to tell us about a bit of news that will hopefully save some of us some trouble. The Inquirer is reporting that Panda software has discovered an adware codec promising increased image quality, is in actuality, a trojan. Plugging itself as a nice compressor and de-compressor of multimedia files, it in actuality is rather nasty.
Panda says the codec downloads and runs files, changes the DNS configuration and monitors accesses to several adult websites. One file in particular that is very dangerous, that the adware will download to your machine, is a lovely rootkit known as Ruins.MB
