Fujitsu will launch the world's first 320GB 2.5" hard disk drive with hardware-based encryption by the end of May. The company announced this yesterday and they believe that their newest product will effectively secure your data against theft or loss. Fujitsu continues their press release with the announcement that the hard drive offers 'the industry's highest rational speed of 7200-rpm and a 3.0 GB/s Serial ATA interface'.
These new series, called the MHZ2 CJ Series, are the first to support 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Because the drive implements the AES hardware encryption directly into the processor chip, you get a faster performance than when using software-based encryption. An advanced secure erase feature should protect your data even more since all can be deleted in less than a second. Finally Fujitsu says that the AES automatically encrypts all data when stored.
The company will start shipping by the end of May and believes they can sell more than two million units by the end of their financial year (FY2008). Nothing is said about the pricing yet.
