Youth still buys and rents DVD

Although we see an increase of broadband users and growing popularity of online video, we can conclude that the vast majority of youths still rent and buy DVDs. An online poll from Knowledge Networks concludes this after focussing their question on Generation Y (ranging 13-29) and Generation X (ranging 30-43). As expected the research showed that online video downloads were more popular with Gen Y (37%) and X (18%) than with the baby boomers (11%).

Besides this we saw that 52% of Gen Y streamed video compared to 37% of Gen X and 21% of the young baby boomers, but most importantly both Gen Y and X stated to consider themselves DVD users. Ninety-eight of both generations said this, although we do see a group testing online streaming and watching.

The research shows how popular DVD is and how well it is adopted with 71% of Gen X and 67% of Gen Y users buying DVDs monthly. That Gen X is spending slightly more on DVDs probably is caused by the income difference.
