The Zoran Corporation will demonstrate their 'Zbox Digital Entertainment Technology Platform' during the CES 2003 Conference in Las Vegas.
With the Zbox initiative Zoran hopes to extend the DVD recorder into an open platform that allows third party developers to build and add consumer applications. It will also allow consumers to bring all of their music and video clips stored on their personal computer onto their television or home theatre system:
"The rapid adoption of DVD players supports our view that consumers want high quality easy-to-use, reliable and affordable digital entertainment products in their homes. Since digital recorders are designed to make storing, accessing and transferring of personal digital content easy for the consumer, we believe that the DVD recording platform is well positioned to become the home's digital entertainment management system. We believe a new category of consumer devices will emerge as the DVD player evolves, first into a DVD recorder, and then into a full featured Digital Entertainment Box that offers wireless communications with other entertainment appliances within the home." |
