The war between Blu-ray and HD DVD can be compared to the war between VHS and Betamax. Betamax lost and became a niche, but many feel that today's format war will never see a clear winner. A recent study by ABI Research gives strength to this argument.
ABI's new study looks at the growing market of high definition drives in the computer market. ABI predicts that the market for high definition drives in computers will be worth $2 billion by 2012. A more important conclusion is that the market will consist for 2/3 of universal players by 2012.
This means that ABI forecasts no winner of the format war.
