Acer MiniRW CRW8824MM review @ CDRlabs

Another portable drive review, this time by CDRLabs, they have reviewed the portable Acer MiniRW CRW8824MM. The drive is able to connect trough USB and PCMCIA and is able to write and rewrite at 8 speed, it reads your CD's at a maximum of 24 speed.

The drive has Seamless Link buffer underrun protection and the CRW8824 shares many of the same features as Acer's other drives including their raw writing support and the ability to make copies of SafeDisc 2 protected CD's.

Highs:

  • Supports Acer's Seamless Link coaster protection - great alternative to other buffer underrun protection technologies.

  • With the FireWire cable the drive has some very good CD read speeds and low seek times.

  • Supports USB, FireWire and PCMCIA interfaces. Makes it extremely easy to install.

  • Kit includes both USB and PCMCIA cables

  • Prassi's PrimoCD Plus is a welcome change from Easy CD Creator.

  • Competitively priced.
  • Lows:

  • DAE speeds are slow no matter what cable you use.

  • Drive runs very warm to the touch, even when idle.

  • FireWire cable is optional.
