The absolute must in data storage is creating backups because redundance is the best way to protect against data losses. Creating backups, however, requires the availability of additional data storage devices, and for some people this can be cumbersome.
Recently a new solution to this problem is emerging: online backups. The idea is rather simple: you don't need anymore to store your data on hard disks, CD/DVD, tapes etc because data are stored on a remote server (obviously an internet connection is mandatory). This solution has been adopted also by SanDisk that offers a service with the New Cruzer Titanium Plus flash pendrives, a USB flash drive that offers automatic online backup for every file copied to the drive.
Besides costs (after six months of free service, online backup costs $29.99 per year), I wonder if the concept of online backups is really a good idea. Feel free to discuss this argument in the dedicated thread on our forum.
