On TBreak.com we find another Plextor Vs Lite-On review. While drives both get a 9.0 because of their performance also here the Lite-On has the advantage of it's low price:
On the whole both drives performed very well and offer each other good competition. We feel confident recommending both these drives as an upgrade to an aging old CDR or CDRW drive. If however you already have a drive that's rated 24x write and 10x rewrite, then we suggest holding of till the next speed grade makes its appearance. |
One thing we feel that may greatly tilt people over to the LiteOn is yet again, the price. The LiteOn 40/12/48 should be retailing for no more than 540/- Dhs (US$ 145/-) in most retail stores. The Plextor 40/12/40A on the other hand retails for a higher figure of 850/- Dhs (US$ 230/-) in most stores. A difference of 310/- Dhs exists between the two drives which does work greatly to LiteOn's advantage but the Plextor drive comes with a 2 year warranty, 5 blank CD-R media and VariRec.
On the whole another excellent drive from Plextor. Their reputation for quality is well deserved and will be pushed forward again with the attention they have taken to ensuring quality burns. Our third LiteOn drive proves to be another good performer with an even better price. Great stuff for sure. We know choosing between these two drives is going to be difficult for those looking for the best overall package but for those that want the best performance on certain levels, we think the choice will be simple.
Besides these results, for as far we can read on our Lite-On and Plextor Forums the Lite-On also wins the battle when it comes to backing up SafeDisc 2.51 protected CDs.
And if you think your current Lite-On writer is too slow, well you might be intrested in reading this...
