Ian, our friend from CDRWcentral (Did you know both CDRlabs and CDRWcentral have their own Ian ?) has done a review on Aopen's CRW2440.
The CRW2440 is a 24x writer, 10x re-writer, 40x reader. The Aopen CRW2440 CD-RW Recorder uses the Z-CLV to write at 24x, the drive also has JustLink™ and JustSpeed™. The writing speeds are 4x, 8x, 12x, 16x (CLV), 20x, 24x (Z-CLV) and re-writing speeds 2x, 4x, 10 (CLV) plus a 2 MB buffer.
Here's an part of the conclusion

Conclusion:Here the CRW2440 proved to be a good drive, the only thing that let it down was the fact that we could not make a working backup of some disc's (SD2 disc's). For every day use, the drive does do what it designed to do, save data, make video CD's and music CD's. The CRW2440 has one feature or should I say technology that only two other drive makes have, this is JustSpeed™, this can also be seen in Ricoh's CD-RW Recorders, the other one being Yamaha's CRW2200 and CRW3200 drives using Optimum Writespeed Control. This allows the user to force the drive to write CDR media at whatever speed is selected. The drive is not the fastest 20x /24x writer, drives from Yamaha, Plextor and LiteOn reign supreme here. Aopen should do well with sales of this drive, it's in the price range of $95 - $110 as is the LiteOn LTR-24102B, so here you have a choice of which one to choose from. It's got good DAE performance, as well as good seek times. |
