Apples dishes out over 1 million videos in 20 days

Let's see, 1 million, times $1.99 for a iTunes store video, that's nearly 2 million dollars! The video service became available when the new Apple video player hit the market and already, we can sense that maybe Jobs is onto something again! But with these figures, possibly people are just downloading these tidbits out of plain old curiosity. Will the demand for these portable programs hold up in the long run?

Along with music videos, iTunes junkies can also download content at the Apple online store from Disney or even ABC television shows to view on their computers or iPods. The television programs, such as the popular Lost, Desperate Housewives, That's So Raven and Night Stalker can be had the day after they have been presented over the air.

Topping the list of big sellers were music videos by Michael Jackson, Fatboy Slim and Kanye West, as well as episodes of ABC shows.

"Selling one million videos in less than 20 days strongly suggests there is a market for legal downloads," Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, said in a statement. "Our next challenge is to broaden our content offerings."

At the service's launch, Walt Disney's ABC was the only nonmusic programming provider aside from Jobs' Pixar Animation Studios, which is also providing short films for the service.

Michael Jackson is a top seller!? This story just gets odder by the minute. One problem or possibly an explanation for these statistics, is the fact that the variety of video offerings are somewhat limited. Right now, Apple offers a combination of around 2,000 plus music videos. Along with that, Pixar film clips and the select television shows as mentioned earlier. In the Reuters report though, it's mentioned that assorted other television networks are being approached by Apple to see if they are interested in offering their content as well. One thing that's nice is, the content being offered at the moment is commercial free.
