Archos MiniCDRW 2si 16/10/24 USB 2.0 review @ CDRLabs

Our friends at CDRLabs.com have wrapped up another review. This time they looked at the Archos MiniCDRW 2si 16/10/24 USB 2.0 CD-RW. This ultra-portable CD-RW writes at 16x and rewrites at 10x.

I've tested quite a few portable drives here at CDRLabs and very few have impressed me. While some drives did one or two things well, the performance usually suffered when it came to things like rewriting or doing DAE. The MiniCDRW 2si, on the other hand, is an all around good performer. When reading CD's the MiniCDRW 2si came very close to reaching 24x with all types of media and had some very good seek times. And while many portable drives have done poorly in our DAE tests, the MiniCDRW did better than I expected. Throughout most of our DAE tests, the drive had no problems ripping audio at 16x. However, it did have some problems reading heavily scratched audio discs.

The MiniCDRW 2si also did very well in our writing and rewriting tests. While the drive writes at only 16x, it does this from start to finish. This gives it the advantage over portable drives that do not reach their maximum writing speed until later in the session. The MiniCDRW 2si is also one of the first truly portable CD-RW drives to feature 10x rewriting speeds. In our rewriting tests the MiniCDRW 2si was more than a minute faster than some of the drives we've tested with 8x rewriting speeds.

Of course the drive also got some things which were not so great but u will have to read it yourself. Great work guys. Read it all on the CDRLabs page.
