The guys of CDRlabs have been busy reviewing the Asus 24 speed drive. This drive writes at 24 speed rewrites at 10 speed and reads your CD's at 40 speed. The drive is based on the Sanyo Chipset.
It uses ZCLV and has Burnproof to protect against buffer underruns. The drive has also Sanyo's FlexSS-BP that checks the media and sets the maximum burning speed.
Here the highs and lows of the drive:
- Very good data transfers with pressed and CD-R media
- Excellent DAE performance.
- Features Sanyo's BURN-Proof technology to prevent coasters.
- Features Sanyo's new FlexSS-BP technology to give users more flexibility
when recording. - Features ASUS's Artificial Intelligence technology to change zone
positions. - Includes Ahead Software's Nero Burning Rom 5.5.
Lows:
- Only supports only PIO Mode 4. Does not support UDMA 33.
- Does not read CD-RW media as fast as pressed or CD-R media.
- Fairly loud when reading and writing CD's.
- Cannot select a 20x writing speed.
- ASUS's AI technology can be picky about what media will write at maximum
speeds.
