ASUS CRW-3212A 32/12/40 CD-RW review @ CDRlabs.com

Ian @ CDRlabs.com took the time to review another drive, this time from Asus. A large company that is also known because of their mainboards and video cards. This 32/12/40 CDRW drive.

The drive performs very well at certain points while at some other small points it lacks the speed of the competition, but all with all, the drive performs very well and gets an overall rating of 9. Here are the highs and lows:

Highs:

  • One of the faster 32x writers currently available.
  • Very good data transfer speeds with pressed and CD-R media.
  • Rewrites at 12x.
  • Excellent DAE speeds. One of the fastest drives we've tested.
  • Features ASUS's FlextraLink, FlextraSpeed and DDSS II technologies.
  • Good seek times for pressed and CD-RW media.
  • Includes Ahead Software's Nero Burning Rom 5.5.
  • Supports UDMA 33.

    Lows:

  • The drive takes longer than some others to spin up when extracting audio.
  • The drive's tray does not close easily when pushed.
  • Has only a 2MB buffer.
  • The seek times for CD-R media are a little higher than the competition.
  • The drive has a maximum CD-RW read speed of only 32x .

Another good review of the guys at CDRlabs. If you are planning to buy a drive always be sure to pop over to their place to find out if a drive is any good.

And of course if we have reviewed the drive be sure too read ours as well !
