Today we can find a new review at our friends from CDRLabs.com. In their latest review they've taken a look at an external USB 2.0 ASUS recorder with speeds of 40X write, 12X re-write and 48X read:
 If you're expecting the same level of quality and features in the CRW-4012A-U as in ASUS's other products, you won't be disappointed. With its sleek design and easy to install USB 2.0 interface, the drive will be very attractive to many. While the CRW-4012A-U's CD read and DAE speeds are rated at 48x, it had a hard time reaching these speeds in our tests. The CRW-4012A-U really fell behind the others when reading CD-RW media. While most of the other 40x writers we've tested have been able to read CD-RW discs at 40x or higher, the CRW-4012A-U struggled to reach 32x. The CRW-4012A-U did a little better when writing CD's, but it still trailed behind the external writers from Sony and Plextor due to a slightly slower average writing speed. I had no problems finding media that would work at 40x with the CRW-4012A-U, but the drive's writing quality was questionable in a few instances.
