ASUS CRW-5224A review @ CDRLabs.com

Since yesterday we can find a new review over at our friends from CDRLabs.com. This time they've taken a look at ASUS' latest recorder, the CRW-5224A. As the model name suggests this drive can write discs at a maximum speed of 52x and re-write discs at 24x. Our thanks goes to Kenshin, our DVD Hardware Forum moderator, for submitting this news:

To give you an idea of what to expect from ASUS's new writer, we'll take a look at some of the drive's features and put it up against the Lite-On based 52x writer from CenDyne. Can the CRW-5224A match the CenDyne's performance? Does the drive deliver the performance and quality ASUS is known for? We'll answer these questions, and more, as we take a look at the ASUS CRW-5224A.

Part of the Conclusion:

Like ASUS's 48x writer, the CRW-5224A's writing performance wasn't as good as it could have been. While the drive had one of the highest average writing speeds we've seen, it was not as fast as one might expect. The CRW-5224A's writing times were higher than some of the other 48x and 52x writers we've looked at lately. Unfortunately, ASUS's new drive wasn't as media-friendly as some of the other writers we've looked at either. Other than ASUS's own media, there were only a few types that were able to write at 52x. The CRW-5224A's writing quality was a big improvement over ASUS's 40x and 48x writers. However, it still could have been better in a few cases. Hopefully ASUS can improve the writing quality and the media requirements in a future firmware update.

The ASUS CRW-5224A gets an overall score of 8. You can check out CDRLabs' complete review here.
