ASUS DRW-1608P 16x DVD±RW DVD burner review @ CDRLabs.com

Our
friends of CDRLabs did it again; they tortured a DVD burner on their test bench.
This time the victim was the ASUS DRW-1608. This drive writes both DVD-R and
DVD+R discs at 16x, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW and the ability to read DVDs back at a
maximum of 16x. The drive is based on a Pioneer DVR-109 DVD burner and from that
drive you might know it also support DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL discs at 6x, and so
does this Asus DVD recorder.

Part of conclusion:

Like the Pioneer drive it's based on, the DRW-1608P can write to DVD+R and DVD-R media at 16x. At this speed, it took the drive about 6 minutes to write an entire 4.7GB DVD. The DRW-1608P also turned in some very good times when writing to DVD-RW media at 6x, but for whatever reason would not recognize any of our 8x DVD+RW media. According to ASUS, support for the new 8x media is coming very soon. Fortunately, writing to DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL media wasn't a problem for the DRW-1608P. Thanks to its 6x writing speed, it took the drive about 19 minutes to burn 8GB of data.

The review also includes tests with  Verbatim's new 4x DVD-R DL media. Read the entire review here. Discuss Asus DVD Recorders in our DVD recorder forum.
