Asus unveils a stylish USB 6x Blu-ray writer inc. BDXL support

Asus, a well-known brand of enthusiast motherboards has unveiled a stylish slim external Blu-ray disc burner, the SBW-06C2X-U, featuring up to 6x Blu-ray writing speed, Triple & Quad Layer BD-R recording and come comes bundled with Cyberlink's PowerDVD 10 for Blu-ray 3D playback and 2D to 3D conversion.

The writer can write up to 6x BD-R SL/DL, 4X BD-R TL/QL, 2X BD-RE SL/DL/TL, 8X DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 6x DVD±R DL, 5x DVD-RAM, 24x CD-R and 16x CD-RW. It can read up to 6x Blu-ray, 8X DVD and 24x CD. Video discs are limited to 2x BDMV, 4x DVD Video and 10x Video/Audio CD. Its random seek times are 300ms BD SL/DL, 450ms BD TL/QL, 190ms DVD and 190ms CD. The writer connects by USB2.0 and has a 2MB data buffer.

According to the ASUS, the writer can fill and close a 25GB BD-R 6x speed disc in 23.39 minutes, compared to the typical 2x speed drives on the market which take 45.29 minutes. The writer can be operated in a horizontal or vertical position and comes bundled with a vertical stand. It is powered by its USB connection.
