Blu-ray, HD DVD Format War Heats up at
MEDIA-TECH
Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2006--The studios have picked sides, but
optical manufacturers will wait until the MEDIA-TECH Expo to choose between HD
DVD and Blu-ray.
The MEDIA-TECH Expo, May 30 - June 01 at Frankfurt, Germany is certainly
going to be the most comprehensive show of the year for media manufacturers to
see the latest product developments for next generation optical media.
Both the new formats will be well represented at the MEDIA-TECH Expo in
workshops and seminars that will be held at the Frankfurt Messe. "To my
knowledge, this is the first event of the year where both competing next
generation format groups are presenting not just their products, but their
technologies and the insight to manufacturing them. Whatever format will
eventually prevail in the end, all of our members and exhibitors will be ready
for it," says Bryan Ekus, Managing Director of MEDIA-TECH Association.
In addition to Blu-ray and HD DVD there are seminar sessions covering VMD,
the multilayer contender for the third generation format and Holographic
Versatile Disc, which is making a bid to be the fourth generation disc.
Moving sideways to new technologies, Devendra Mishra from Pepperdine
University will lead some big name presenters with a European preview to the
full Entertainment Supply Chain Academy (June 20-21, LA, California).
Immediately after will be presentations from the Organic Electronic Association,
which will look at applications in the RFID field for the packaged media
industry.
