The British internet provider Sky will enable its porn filter by default for all new customers starting in 2016. Previously the extra service was opt-in, now the filter is opt-out, Sky customers have to manually disable the filter again.
The filter is called Sky Broadband Shield and the provider offers it to its customers since 2013. Till now customers were asked whether they wanted to enable the filter when they first connected to the internet provider.
Research from the telecom authority Ofcom reports that especially Sky customers use a filter in the United Kingdom. About 30-40% has enabled the filter which prevents visiting adult websites before 10 pm.
Customers that previously decided they didn't want to enable the filter will possibly need to find the setting to disable it again in their MySky account.
