With the widespread availability of 18x and 20x DVD writers and 20x looking to be the limit for DVD writers, Buffalo has decided to go with a more balanced writing speed of 19x. While this may be a couple of seconds slower than a 20x writer, the 19x speed is surely going to stand out of the crowd, not to mention being a rather unusual write speed also!
Going by Buffalo's Japanese article, the drive's other specifications are more on par with other DVD writers, including 8x DVD±R DL, 8x/6x DVD+RW/-RW, 12x DVD-RAM and 48x/32x CD-R/-RW write performance. Its read performance includes 16x DVD±R & DVD-ROM, 12x DVD±R DL, DVD±RW & DVD-RAM, 48x CD-R/ROM and 40x CD-RW. The drive comes bundled with the Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 OEM suite, the disc encryption software "Secure Lock Ware" for securing DVD-RAM content and some free samples of data recovery software.
The drive will be available in ATAPI or SATA configurations and a choice of a black or white faceplate. The drive will go on sale in Japan mid-November with a price of ¥6300 (~US$55) or ¥6900 (~US$61) for the SATA and ATAPI models respectively.
