It appears Verizon Wireless will again offer a buy one, get one free promotion for several Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerry smartphones.
The last time Verizon did this BlackBerry became the top-selling smartphone during that quarter, and both companies can expect another sales spike.
Rather than offer a second BlackBerry, Verizon also is offering a netbook, USB modem, MiFis, or PC card with the purchase -- lesser or equal value, depending on the phone and product, of course. The biggest challenge consumers will have, however, is finding a device that has equal or lesser value of the phone -- the promotion is open for the Tour, Storm, Pearl Flip, and Curve.
The Tour smartphone is available for $200, but the other phones are significantly less, with the Storm available for $99, Pearl Flip for $79, and Curve for just $49. Furthermore, the Boy Genius report doesn't indicate if the netbook will also require a two-year subscription, which would make the deal much less appealing for most subscribers.
Several mail-in-rebates are involved, but it could still be a solid deal for anyone looking to purchase a new smartphone this fall. According to sources, the deal will run through Oct. 10, so you have some time to decide which phone and goodie you want with the deal.
