Canon has announced that they have designed and are about to release, a couple straight-to-DVD camcorders. These DC10 and DC20 models are Canons very first effort using this method of recording, yet they claim they are the industry's smallest and lightest 1 megapixel DVD video cameras! Not only that, you can use the "PictBridge" function and print still images directly, without a computer.
| Specific scenes are instantly selectable for playback or you can edit from visual index playlists, which are created in-camera. An RGB filter promises rich and true colour reproduction by eliminating signal conversion and by providing 'true' split path processing, Canon's DIGIC DV processor should ensure high quality video and stills.
Both digital video cameras feature a 9-point AiAF auto focus. In addition, a Print/Share button is included for PC-free printing of photos direct to any PictBridge compatible photo printer - the first time this technology has featured on a DVD camcorder. |
The DC10 is a 1.33 megapixel unit and the DC20 is 2.2 megapixel. Both models support high-resolution 16:9 widescreen mode, a 10x optical zoom and Electronic Image Stabiliser. The DC20 has what Canon calls "Super Night Mode" for shooting in zero light conditions. According to the report over at Bios, the camcorders will become available October 1.
