Because burners are getting faster and faster also the demand to prevent buffer underruns is getting higher. First we had sanyo's burnproof. Then Ricoh came with JustLink. Last was Acer with his Seamless Link.
Cdrlab has created a review of the Acer CRW1208A 12/8/32 CD-RW With Seamless Link. The drive itself is not that special but it has the Seamless Link build in.
The CRW1208A is the first drive from Acer to support Seamless Link technology. Seamless Link is a new technology that was co-developed by Acer and Philips. Seamless Link monitors the drive and keeps buffer under runs from occurring. While similar in theory, this is not the same thing as Sanyo's BURN-Proof or Ricoh's JustLink.
The have created a very nice review, and tested the complete package and writing with CloneCD.
This was actually a review of two things: Acer's Seamless Link technology and their CRW1208A drive. Seamless Link has two things going for it that BURN-Proof does not have. The first is that it does not need an additional controller chipset. It is controlled by the firmware and can be easily updated if need be via a firmware update. The other thing is that it does not need the software to support it. Other technologies like BURN-Proof and JustLink need to have the software turn them on. With Seamless Link the coaster protection is always present, even if your software supports it or not. If I was just reviewing the technology I'd give it a perfect 10. |
