CDRLabs reviews the BenQ DW1640 16x DVD±RW

Scour used our news submit to tell us "Great review with many tested media and many scans, read it!"

Yes, our friends over at CDRLabs have just put the finishing touches on and published a review about the drive everyone is talking about, the BenQ DW1640 16x DVD±RW. We know that they know what the heck they are doing, so like Scour says: Read it!

The latest addition to BenQ's DVD writer lineup is the DW1640. This revolutionary drive has improved on the previous model (the BenQ DW1620) in some very important ways. Although single layer recording has now topped out at 16x for both DVD-R and DVD+R formats, the drive offers a blinding speed of 8x for DVD+RWs, 6x for DVD-RWs, 8x for DVD+R DL and 4x for DVD-R DL. The drive also offers 48x recording for CD-R and 32x recording for CD-RW media. As if the above wasn't enough, the drive comes packed with loads of extra features that correspond with BenQ's own QSuite utility package. These features include complete bitsetting support, control over the drive's burn strategies, and even the ability to activate overspeed support for any single layer DVD+R or DVD-R media.

To give you an idea of what you can expect from this new drive, we'll take a look at some of the DW1640's features, its' bundled software, and then see how easy it is to install. After that we'll see how it performs when writing to various types of DVD±R and DVD±RW media, at speeds ranging from 4x to 16x. How does the DW1640 stack up to the drives from the competition? Keep reading to find out.

Here's the link to this excellent review and don't forget to say: "Hi!" to Digital Dolphin over there and thanks for the hard work and the informative battery of tests he performed. Plus, maybe you have some things to ask about QSuite 2.0 or Solidburn or other questions for them. But don't forget us either! After you see what they have to say, come back here and discuss the findings in the article with other CD Freaks in the BenQ forum. Let us know what you think of this highly anticipated drive. They are available anywhere in the world now and you can find them at great prices as well.
