Here we have another story about music industry issues. This time the German Chaos Computer Club (CCC) has called for a boycott of the music industry and their products as long as they continue sueing filesharing users. The CCC is mainly known for their hacking events many years ago, but during the last few years they tended more towards defending privacy and security for online users.

At the same time, CCC criticises their current advertisement campaign "hard but fair" that tries to brand music pirates as criminals. The CCC is sure that these wrong statements are made to spread wrong information about the punishability of copyright infringements. The private copy is set to the same level as is child abuse and rightist extremism. The CCC found many ways to criticise the copyright holders: The quality of music has decreased, prices are way too high and the choice in music shops is too small. In order to play original CDs in car CD players, customers are often forced to use filesharing, because of the used copy protections. |
I guess we should all commit to this boycott as this
seems to be the only way to let the music industry know what we think about them
and their complaints. But probably they would again accuse those bad filesharers
for their decreasing sales because of this.
