Cheaper Blu-ray players by September?

We've all been waiting for the Chinese to enter the market, to help us by manufacturing some cheap Blu-ray players. At this week's fair in Hong Kong some Chinese manufacturers have already shown some sample players. These don't have a brand, but offer you the high-definition look and feel. These no-brand factories have announced that their players could be manufactured and ready in July or August, which means they could start competing by September, according to Current.com.au.

Tony Pack, Electronics Australasia managing director, said he saw "a few - maybe two - non-brand factories with a sample". In an interview with Current Pack said he believes the factories were suggesting $499 as a retail price for the units. If these manufacturers really want to take on the major brands, they will need to do better. The thought of a few no-branded Blu-ray players to enter the market by September is cool though, if it means they'll be cheap!

On the long run we can expect these 'Chinese' prices to go very low, which will give the major brands no other choice than to follow, we saw the same deal with DVD players...
