jsl used our newssubmit to tell us about an article where Peter Chernin, CEO of Fox Group, gives his comment about piracy and the efforts taken. It was a really big surprise to read that he fully supports the piracy battle. If we must believe him the only bad guys are those who copy.
All our other arguments, like the fear of technology by media companies are thrown to pieces. Guess he never heard of the problems with legal downloadservices. He is partially right, but he forgets one important point. When you are used to making big profits, it is hard to give people a fair price.
He cited what he called serious misconceptions that need to be eradicated before progress against piracy can be made. One is the dinosaur theory: that media companies are fundamentally anti-technology through ignorance and fear. The truth is the opposite, Chernin said, and, in fact, these companies have always played a crucial role in the birth and success of new technologies.
Chernin similarly dismissed what he called the "big bully theory" -- that content owners are "seeking to scale back the fundamental freedoms of digital technology" and therefore must be defied.
