Reinhard used our newssubmit to tell us that his company has developed a dye (the chemicals on a CD-R that are burned by the laser) called Irgaphor(R) Ultragreen MX that has been certified for recording speeds up to 52x.
The company also claims that they are ready to
support even CD-Rs up to 56x. The current CD-Rs are certified for 52x by both Lite-On and Ricoh.
The collaboration with CD-R/RW drive manufacturers is needed to ensure that drives are programmed to burn discs at the maximum speeds of which they are capable. Most 48x drives in the market already support Ultragreen at 48x, now LiteOn and Ricoh have been the first companies to support also 52x recording. The Ricoh NSS48 will burn Plasmon coded Ultragreen media at 52x from firmware version 1.04, and the LiteOn LTR52246S from version 6S01. |
Other 52x drive manufacturers are testing Ultragreen discs and more news is expected shortly. And if even faster drives appear on the market, you can be sure Ultragreen performance will be there to set to standard!
Ciba IRGAPHOR Ultragreen MX is today's market leading phthalocyanine dye for CD-R, qualified and used by major CD-R brands and manufacturers. Ciba's cutting edge Ultragreen technology together with Plasmon's expertise in optical media engineering is available to media manufacturers worldwide.
More information can be found here. And again this makes the rumors about a 56x drive stronger, but who will release it?
