CIS Arrgo (48/16/48) review @ CDRLabs.com

Today we can find a fresh new review over at our friends from CDRLabs.com. This time they've reviewed the CIS Arrgo CD-RW drive capable of 48x reading and writing. Re-writing is done at a maximum speed of 16x:

To give you an idea of what to expect from the Arrgo 48/16/48 we'll take a look at some of the drive's features and put it up against some of the other 48x writers that are currently available. Is it the fastest 48x writer around? The results might surprise you. Keep reading to see what I thought about the Arrgo 48/16/48.

Part of the Conclusion:

The Arrgo 48/16/48 is hands down, one of the fastest 48x writers we've tested. The drive blew away the competition in our writing tests thanks to one of the fastest average writing speeds we've seen. Unlike many other high speed writers, the Arrgo was also able to deliver some surprisingly good writing quality. These speeds don't come without a price though. Media that worked fine at 48x with other drives would not always write at 48x with the Arrgo 48/16/48. Hopefully CIS can add support for more media in a future firmware update.

Besides the higher than average full seek times, the Arrgo did pretty well in CD read tests. The drive had no problems reading pressed and CD-R media at 48x, but had to slow down to about 38x to read CD-RW discs. The Arrgo's DAE performance was mixed. While the drive was able to rip audio CDs at 48x, it failed to complete our scratched and dirty disc tests and produced a good number of data errors in CD Speed's advanced DAE tests.

Personally I've never heard of the CIS brand but it seems they offer pretty good drives at an affordable price. The CIS Arrgo gets an overall score of 8. The full review can be found over at CDRLabs.com.
