CIS Arrgo 52/24/52 review @ CDRLabs.com

CDRLabs.com has
posted their latest review on their website. This time they've
reviewed the CIS Argo CD-recorder, a drive supporting 52x read and write speeds
while re-writing is done at a maximum speed of 24x:

I'll be honest here. The Arrgo 52/24/52 probably
isn't for everyone. While the drive offers a number of useful features and
some of the fastest CD read speeds we've seen, those looking for fast
writing speeds and high media compatibility will want to look
elsewhere.

The Arrgo did very well in our CD read tests. It had
no problems reading pressed media at 52x and had some very good seek
times, no matter what type of media we were using. CIS's new writer also
did very well when it came time to rip audio CD's. With speeds exceeding
51x in most cases, the Arrgo will have you ripping audio CD's to MP3
faster than the RIAA can hand out lawsuits.

The Arrgo 52/24/52 didn't do quite as well in our
writing tests. While the drive had one of the highest average writing
speeds we've seen, it took longer than some of the other 52x writers to
complete our tests. The Arrgo's media requirements were also a little
higher than we would have liked. Media that worked fine at 52x with other
drives did not want to work at this speed with CIS's new writer. Even
then, the writing quality could have been a little better with some of our
test media. Hopefully, CIS can improve these things in a future firmware
update.

8/10.
