CyQ've CQ2400Plus DVD+R/+RW review @ CDRlabs.com

Our friends from CDRlabs have wrapped up another review. This time they spend some time in investigating the CyQ've CQ2400Plus. This is a DVD writer that uses the more and more populair becoming DVD+ technology to write the DVD recordables.

The drive is an external USB2.0 device writes CD-Rs at 12 speed, rewrite at 10 speed, reading of CDs at 32 speed, writes DVDs at 2.4 speed and reads them back at 8 speed. It comes with Nero, CyberLink PowerDVD and Ulead VideoStudio. Overall the device has a good performace:

Part of conclusion:

The CyQ've CQ2400Plus is the first drive from M.E.T we've looked at and to be honest, they could not have made a better first impression. M.E.T's attention to detail and the overall quality of the drive make it stand out in a crowd. However, its performance is very similar to the other DVD+RW drives we've looked at.

The CQ2400Plus had no problems reaching 32x for all types of CD's, but had some higher than average seek times. Unfortunately, it didn't do quite as well as we would have liked when ripping audio CD's. Throughout most of our DAE tests, the drive had a tendency to slow down for no apparent reason and never sped back up again. The drive also had a lot of problems reading scratched and dirty discs.

With 48/24/48 CD-RW drives starting to hit the shelves, the CQ2400Plus' 12x writing and 10x rewriting speeds might seem a little slow. However, they are more than adequate if you need to write an occasional CD or two. In our tests the drive was able to write an entire 650MB CD in less than 7 minutes. For many people, this is fast enough. The CQ2400Plus is much faster when writing to DVD's. The drive was able to write about 4GB to a DVD+RW disc in a little over 20 minutes thanks to its 2.4x writing speeds. Writing the same amount of data to a DVD+R disc took a couple of minutes longer due to some additional finalizing but this is still considerably faster than any of the DVD-R/RW drives out there.
