Dirty Dozen - Top 12 - Viruses for June 2001

Central Command, a leading provider of PC anti- virus software and computer security services, and its partners today released its` monthly listing of the top twelve viruses reported for June 2001. The report, coined the "Dirty Dozen", is based on the number of virus occurrences confirmed through Central Command`s Emergency Virus Response Team tracking.

The table below represents the most prevalent viruses for June 2001. The ranking is determined by the amount of virus occurrences reported, number one being the most frequent.

9. I-Worm.Hybris.D 2.6%

10. VBS.Loveletter.A 2.5%

11. I-Worm.Hybris.G 1.9%

12. 097M.Tristate.C 1.5%

The most frequent virus reported for the month of June was I- Worm.Hybris.B, a polymorphic worm which spreads by e-mail and by intercepting network and Internet traffic. "Ranked number one for the fourth straight month, I-Worm.Hybris.B shows no sign of declining anytime soon," said Steven Sundermeier, product manager at Central Command, Inc.

Win32.Magistr.A@mm, a complex polymorphic mass mailing virus containing multiple payloads and VBS.Loveletter.K rounded out the top three reported viruses for the month.
