"Q" is not only to become in contrast to the past DivX a video
codec, but a "Multimedia codec", with which DivXNetworks everything
supplies from a hand, speak video, audio and container format. In the past
months it became clear that many of the problems, which resulted in
particular when certifying hardware could be avoided only by such a step.
One will embed and with different audio codecs to combine will be able the
codec nevertheless further into arbitrary containers. Nevertheless one
does not want by any means that a "new Gej" comes along and chops the
codec to release in order to be able to use him in such a way, as it wants
-- so happened a few years ago, when Gej Microsofts MPEG4v3.dll chopped,
in order her from Microsofts proprietaerem ASF format.
Since DivXNetworks would
understand itself primarily on video codecs, one becomes the suitable
audio codecs lizenzieren, one had some candidates in the eye, and one
wants discrete Surround sound also -- with less than half of typical
AC3-Bitraten (in fact there momentarily only AAC or Ogg Vorbis remains).
Also with the container format one does not want to make to deep changes.
AVI is not optimal, but with some small corrections (for instance during
the support of variable Frameraten and Streaming ability) much does not
have to be changed.
With questions about
technical details to "Q", about which DivXNetworks CEO Jordan Greenhall
already spoke on the occasion of the CeBIT, the DivX creator kept itself
still covered. One will probably say good-bye to open standards, because
the specifications of MPEG-4 and also H.264/AVC are simply too much blown
up and the development would precede due to the committee structure and
license politics of the Moving Picture Experts Group too
slowly.
One counts on the fact that
"Q" is finished in the second or third quarter 2004. The fact that it will
give however actually, as on the CeBIT suggested, first an open SOURCE
version considers Gej almost impossible. Instead one wants to prematurely
co-operate with hardware developers, in order to have punctually for the
publication of "Q" devices in the market, which provide those with the
codec to Multimedia files play can. DivX users and owners (or potenzielle
buyers) of current DivX hardware would have to by the way make themselves
no concerns. The company wants to support also further DivX
