DRM causing difficulties for libraries

Fudged2005 used our news submit to tell us "The British Library
could hardly be called an advocate of piracy, so it will be interesting to see
how copyright owners manage to spin this one."

In this interesting article, it seems that there is
a concern with the more restrictive use of digital goods and the impact this
could have upon the library system.


Speaking at the launch of the All-Party Parliamentary Internet Group (APIG) into Digital Rights Management, the British Library's Chief Executive, Lynne Brindley, urged MPs to balance the rights of content creators with the need to maintain access in the public good.


"Digital material generally comes with a
contract, and these contracts are nearly always more restrictive than
existing copyright law and frequently prevent copying, archiving, and
access by the visually impaired..."

Basically, the national library is asking that IP law
looks at digital materials the same way as printed. You can check out the
