I don't know if this is a problem of many visitors of CD Freaks, but one of the things that is currently raising the concern of the police are DVD units that are build in dashboards. People used to build in TV units in the back of vans, to keep their children occupied on long trips, but DVD units in dashboards are becoming a trend.
This is concering the police as it is likely to distract the driver. In the back it is no problem, but the dashboard units are at least a bigger risk for an accident.
David Carr, an Augusta father and the owner of Carr Racing, has a screen in his dashboard and two in the rear of his Ford F-350 pickup. It allows his children to watch movies or play video games on long trips. His family travels to races as far away as New York, and the trips can get boring. Mr. Carr said he quickly learned that the glow from the dashboard screen interfered with his driving at night. "That is forbidden in my truck," he said. |
He said that he frequently watches movies while his vehicle is parked as he is waiting on his children to finish football practice or bowling. Mr. Carr said it comes down to common sense.
"If you are going to put one in a dash and expect to go down the road watching movies, you're an idiot," he said.
Anyone here with a DVD player in the van? And what do you think, does it distract or can you easily drive with your dashboard DVD unit? Read the entire article here.
