Zone has posted a preview of BenQ's coming DW830A DVD+R DL
drive which we had a
preview of recently too. Hardware Zone has also an interesting interview
with a representative of BenQ about future developments of DVD+R DL:
HWZ: What sort of write speed
progression pace will we see for the next 6 months down the road for BenQ
and the Dual-Layer technology?
BenQ: The DL ver. 2 standard
for 4x-10x recording is expected to be finalized by Q4 2004. The BenQ
DVDRW product roadmap has been planned accordingly to launch 4x DVD+R DL
recording supported drive in Q4/04, and 6x-10x DVD+R DL recordable drives
in 2005.
HWZ: What are the
technicalities surrounding the manufacturing process in delivering a
Dual-Layer write speed faster than the introductory 2.4x speed?
BenQ: Second layer (L1)
recording quality is the greatest challenge at high-speed recording, such
as the upcoming 4x write speed for DVD+R DL - being able to precisely
track and focus the second layer location is critical. High-speed
recording usually demands higher power, so the process of writing the
second layer (L1) without impacting the data on the first layer (L0) is
also critical.
