Easily play Youtube videos in VLC with VLCTube

A Greasemonkey script called VLCTube allows playback of Youtube videos in the popular open-source video player VLC. This allows users on Firefox to playback Youtube videos without the Adobe Flash plugin installed and/or when HTML5 is not supported due to usage of an older browser.

The script is available for Firefox users with the Greasemonkey extension installed. Greasemonkey is a browser extension which allows users to create automated scripts for webpages in Javascript. It can be used to hide advertisements, add new skins  to web pages, add keyboard shortcuts for website features etc. Chrome users who want to use the script can install the Chrome spin off Tampermonkey.

With the VLCTube script it's possible to only pick audio streams of Youtube videoclips which can help to save bandwidth. It can also hardware accelerate videos where Flash is unable to do so for improved performance and VLCTube adds an auto repeat feature to Youtube.

More information and downloads can be found on this VLCTube page.
