GristyMcFisty used our news submit to let us know that EMI and BMG record labels have announced that they will launch several new DVD-Audio titles by March next year. They are also partnering with DTS Entertainment to increase their DVD-Audio selection with a large number of back catalogue titles. The artists and albums in the deal with DTS Entertainment has not been finalised yet.
Their titles are expected to range from the classic music such as the beach boys and Rod Stewart up to modern music like The Foo Fighters and Alicia Keys.

As for BMG, it's causing a stir by promising to release some DVD-A titles from artists that actually appeal to younger audiences, such as The Foo Fighters and Usher. Their full list, set for release in the next few months, looks like this:

As DTS Entertainment will be producing titles for EMI for distribution, it looks like they should be compatible with existing DVD players that support DTS decoding or are connected to a 5.1 DTS digital compatible amp. While DVD-Audio and Super-Audio CD have high fidelity audio in common, DVD-Audio does have the advantage that existing DVD players can play those with DTS tracks with fairly high fidelity 5.1 audio. That is assuming that the DVD player (or a connected digital amp) supports DTS decoding. DVD-Audio playback is also possible in a PC equipped with a DVD-ROM drive and DVD-Audio playback software. Super Audio CD's high resolution audio layer cannot be read in DVD-ROM drives and only proprietary super-audio CD drives can read let alone play this layer. Super Audio CD's can include a standard audio CD layer for legacy CD quality playback.
