CDRLabs.com have wrapped up their latest review. This time they've taken a look at CenDyne's external (USB2.0 and FireWire) DVD-RW writer. This latest CenDyne drive is based on Pioneer's fourth generation DVD-RW drive, the DVR-104 and offers 2x DVD-R and 1x DVD-RW writing speeds. CD-R discs can be written at 8x:
![]() CenDyne has done a great job on their external USB 2.0/FireWire DVD-RW. They've taken Pioneer's award winning, fourth generation DVD-RW and put it in one of the best looking external cases we've seen in a long time. With a combination like this, it would be hard to make it better, but CenDyne has done just that by incorporating support for not only USB 2.0, but FireWire too. |
While CenDyne's new USB 2.0/FireWire DVD-RW has its share of features, it isn't the fastest DVD writer we've taken a look at lately. The drive's CD read speeds are a definite improvement over previous DVD-RW drives. However, they still max out at only 24x. The drive's DAE speeds are also an improvement. CenDyne's external DVD-RW did better than I expected when reading back our scratched and dirty test disc, but had a tendency to slow down when ripping pressed audio discs. I was also a little disappointed with the drive's CD writing speeds. With some of the new DVD writers sporting 12x, 16x or even 24x CD writing speeds, the CenDyne's 8x writing was agonizingly slow. I won't even comment on the drive's 4x rewriting speeds.
The CenDyne DVD-RW drive costs about $500,- and gets an overall score of 8. The complete review can be read here.
