FBI conducts 11-state anti-piracy sweep

Cnet.com reports the following that the FBI Tuesday conducted searches in 11 states to gather evidence as part of a national crackdown on Internet-based software piracy.

The investigation is targeted at Internet sites that make copyrighted material available for download, the agency said.

The Theft Act, passed by Congress in 1997, makes it illegal to reproduce or distribute software programs and other copyrighted works.
